First of all I’d like to say that I am a private person and when I’m in pain of any sort I imagine myself crawling into a dark cave, curling up, and insisting on being left alone. That said, inviting a doula to my labor experience was quite a move for me especially because I am prone to back labor. Regardless, I needed help with a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and from what I’d read on the topic the best person to have coaching you is a doula.
So I went in search of one and found Sara Farthing. I really didn’t know what to expect. I imagined many things, but mainly I was worried that a very intimate experience – childbirth – would become less so by inviting a stranger to participate. Boy, was I wrong! Some people are gifted with the art of presence and support and can lead and/or follow without being intrusive. Sara is one of these people. She was our calm in the storm, and she guided us through labor like a seasoned professional. Without her I believe my VBAC would not have been possible. I strongly believe people come into our life for a reason and if you have found Sara to help you through labor you’re truly fortunate. ~ Amber Barnes, Tacoma, WA
My husband and I absolutely LOVED having you there for us during my labor! It was so comforting for a first time mom like myself to be able to speak to you throughout the day while I was laboring at home. Even though we had taken classes and knew what we should expect, the first time is such a great unknown and knowing that you were there to guide us helped me to remain calm.
Once we arrived at the hospital, my husband was very thankful to have you there supporting us as I continued through the final stages of labor. Your calm, leadership and knowledge of different postitions to help assist me with a more effective and comfortable labor were invaluable! We also treasure the pictures you took for us of Sarah’s arrival! After having you as our doula, we know that we want to have a doula present with us for the births of any our future children! ~ Brasher Family, Travis, Darla & Sarah
