One.

Family Pictures – For the first time since our wedding day we took professional family pictures last night! It’s always something I think “hey we should do that!” and never something that makes my short list of things to do. But Mike’s new practice in Chicago asked that he get professional family pictures taken before we move and before baby comes, for their website. So we finally did it! I spent Wednesday going through the clothes that remained unpacked for the three of us and realizing some shopping would be required. So off to the mall on a rainy day I went – 2.5 year old in tow.

I wandered aimlessly through Motherhood Maternity, Younkers and Banana Republic before finding a cute non-maternity dress in Francesca’s Closet that fit over the belly. Then I actually found Leah’s cute dress on clearance at Target and Mike was able to wear pink shorts and a white button down that he had. I was so proud of myself as this is generally not my forte! Last night we had a great time taking pictures outside on a beautiful night and I’m excited to see if we got any good ones in a couple weeks!

Two.

Birth Stories – It was so fun receiving the birth stories that I posted over the past two weeks. It’s been a while since I’ve had any to post and reading those just made me remember by I love hearing about each baby’s entry into the world – they’re all so unique! So if you have wondered if I’m still looking for stories to share I am! And if you’ve had a baby and would be willing to share your story I’d be thrilled to learn about that amazing (or terrifying) moment in your life that left you forever changed, so send it my way!

Packing in the calories everywhere

Our struggle with Leah since literally the moment she was born has been getting her to gain weight. It goes in waves where we try super hard for every bite, and then we relax for a while.  We were approached by a lady at our church last week who asked about her being so tiny because she has a granddaughter who is similarly built and she wanted reassurance that some kids are just skinny. I told her that at this point I firmly believe that Leah is just a skinny mini who burns the few calories we can get her to consume too quickly. BUUTT it did make Mike and I both take another look at her and wish there was a little more meat on those bones. So, as happens about once every 4 months, we’re newly resolute to get as many calories in her as possible. Which means I’m pulling out some stops I’ve held as unnecessary up to this point – bring on the Pediasure, heavy cream, adding butter to everything she eats, egg yolks only, etc.  If you know of any super dense calorie foods that I can try please let me know! The hard part is that guess who eats all of Leah’s leftovers….the person in our family who’s NOT having any trouble putting on weight at the moment LOL, oh well….

Four.

Escape from the crib – Yesterday I put Leah in her crib for nap and went downstairs to get her ‘soft blankies’, came back up and she was laying down – on the floor. She first climbed out of the crib about a year ago, but never did it since and I was so happy that we could keep her contained in there. But yesterday when she did it so nonchalantly I was just slightly alarmed, as we’re not moving her out of the crib with 1 month left in this house. We’ve firmly decided new house = big girl bed. So she asked if she could sleep on the floor, and I said fine, as long as you SLEEP.  And she did. Who knows what naptime will bring today, but yesterday was actually an improvement on most days!

Grilled Chicken Greek Salad – Speaking of food, we made this salad the other night and it really hit the spot and was so easy, so I thought I’d share.
