I know I promised you an announcement about a week and a half ago, but life has been crazy and so I’m sorry for making you wait but I’m finally following through on that promise!
Yep, I’m sure you guessed it – we’re expecting baby #2! I’ll be 20 weeks on Friday and am due August 11, so currently enjoying the blissful second trimester and all the sleep, full appetite and rapid expansion that goes with it! And no, we’re not finding out what we’re having – something I never thought I could do.
Here’s how I told Mike:
So to explain the video, since I told Mike I was pregnant with Leah via text message, I wanted to do something a little more fun this time. I decided to make a book that Leah could bring him to read as a bedtime story whenever we got pregnant. My sister Kara helped me edit and format and did some amazing illustrations. Then we got the book and waited. And waited and waited. And finally when we were in Chicago staying with Mike’s parents I got a positive test. Luckily I had brought the book, and sneakily set up my phone to record his reaction. I was SHAKING in this video; I had no idea if he’d guess right away or get it at all (he can be a bit oblivious 😉 ) so I taped the pregnancy test into the end of the book, and lucky I did or he wouldn’t have gotten it at all! Haha! This is a very personal but special moment for our family which is why I decided to share it here.
Leah is super excited and prays for her “little sister or brother” every time we pray. She is constantly asking me if we can open the baby yet, and kissing my belly. I’m so excited to see her become a sister, but also a wee bit nervous as she freaks out whenever I hold another baby. As my dad recently said, she’s about to have a rude awakening!
I am so thankful to be pregnant, and it has given me a new appreciation for those struggling with fertility issues and trying to conceive. It is such a roller coaster and if you’re there right now I want to acknowledge the pain that can come with seeing another pregnancy announcement, when you’re on month whatever of having your hopes crushed. If you’re praying a baby into your belly right now I want you to know that the video above came after months of frustration, although it doesn’t come close to what many couples go through to have a healthy pregnancy. The joy and disbelief we both felt learning we were pregnant came on the heels of being pretty sure that we’d be at it for who knows how many more months. If you’re there now, I was there too, and I feel your pain and I hope that your prayers are answered so so soon.
I may or may not post pregnancy updates, probably some but not a ton, but won’t push them out to social media so if you want to see them you’ll just need to check back here occasionally.
Thanks for sharing in our excitement!
